Ways to facilitate the teaching of Basic science subject in secondary, and primary schools in Nigeria

Basic science in secondary/primary school is very essential for students because the subject comprises a lot of topics which the students in the country should have knowledge about.

It is very important for the students in the country to have deep knowledge of basic science as it can contribute to the growth of a country in terms of technological aspects. But there are so many factors that are affecting the successful teaching of basic science in Nigerian schools.

If that is the case, let’s take a look at how the factors affecting the teaching of basic science in Nigeria can be deterred.

Firstly, the government/school owner must provide modern training facilities for effective teaching and learning of basic science in secondary schools. Incentives for teachers and basic science students.

Besides, class sizes in secondary schools must be reduced, admission of candidates in all secondary school programs should be based on merit, and examination should be conducted to test the student’s attitude toward learning and their intellectual abilities.

Also, providing adequate classrooms and teaching materials for students should not be neglected. This includes the effects of material shortages, the number of students in the class and the physical condition of the class, the teachers. Qualifications, teaching experience, and teaching style at the student’s presentation level in basic scientific process skills.

This study determines the relationship between the level of object valuation, gender, and economic efficiency. Improve understanding and performance of weak students in basic knowledge of the Science process. It is recommended that science teachers provide these students with the following additional opportunities:

(a) As these students practice classroom activities, the teacher should help these students use basic scientific process skills and make them aware of their use of those skills.

(b) The teacher should focus on more practical activities, including the more fundamental process skills for these students.

(c) Teachers should give them homework, including practical activities for students, and encourage them to use basic skills in the scientific process.

Most of the teaching materials for teaching science are not available in primary schools. Unavailability of materials implies disuse. Primary school administrators should encourage classroom teachers to create and use classroom materials for their classes.

Teachers should not wait for the government to do everything but make extra efforts to provide teaching materials to their students. This will enable the smooth teaching of basic science in the school.

Lastly, Government authority should recruit teachers based on their qualities, there shouldn’t be any form of tribalism, nepotism, and favoritism in the recruitment process. If there is, it is possible to recruit inexperienced teachers, and this will lead to a poor education system in the country. The recommended way to recruit a basic science teacher is to examine the applicants vividly in so many aspects of the subject, like the practical aspect, theory aspect, and calculating aspect. These aspects are the main aspects of basic science.

When an applicant meets all these requirements successfully, there is a high chance that such a teacher will contribute to the development of basic science knowledge for the students in the country.
